Born 1950 in State of Kedah. Studied lithography under Claude
Sandoz in Switzerland. 2-man Show at the Alpha gallery in Singapore
in 1980. Work selected in Viva La Palestine, at the City Hall in
Kuala Lumpur in 1983. Solo Exhibitions in Galeria Penang 1983,
Shenn’s Fine Art at Takashimaya in Singapore in 1995. Member
of the Utara Group since 1978, Hip Seng exhibited with Utara 18
times all over Penang, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. He also actively
participated in many group shows including exhibitions by the Kedah
State Art gallery, Malaysian Artists Association and the National
Art gallery in Kuala Lumpur. Since 1993, Chong Hip Seng also
contributed his efforts to link Southern Artists’ group in Hat yai,
Thailand for its many group exhibitions attracting artists from
Malaysia specially those from Penang, Kuala Lumpur and even artists
from Singapore. A bold artist dares to experiment and explore, he
made prints of lithograph, wood-cuts, and miniature paintings in
acrylic now enlarge to canvases full of vibrant expressions. He
human figures and oil palms are made up of lines and shades
expressionistic enough to show his wild and uncompromising character |
