Born 1938 in Penang. An English school teacher 1956 – 1993. Served as registrar and lecturer for Conservatory of Fine Arts in Penang since 1994. Awarded Gold Award for ‘Joy of Living’ , a National Art Competition in 1964; Excellent Service Award by the Ministry of Education of Malaysia in 1992. Held one-man show ‘Reflection on Time’ at Conservatory of Fine Arts Gallery in Penang in 1996. His group exhibitions include those held by the National Art Gallery in Kuala Lumpur (‘The pioneering Spirit 1950s & 1960s’ in 1997), in Penang (Transisi: The Dynamic Passage of the Penang Teachers’ Art Circle) and Japan ( 32nd, 33rd, 35th and 36th Asian Modern Art Exhibition in Tokyo, 1996 – 1999; Asaka City Industry and Cultural Center, Japan, 2003). Tan Lye Hoe ‘would immerse his thoughts into the spirit of his subject and eventually captures essence of Nature’s supreme beauty. He executes his creative impulse on canvas intuitively, emotionally and perceptively.’
